Seniors Homes and Preschools Mix!
It’s been said the mind is like a muscle – “Use it or lose it!” So, what are the best ways to ‘use’ it?
Here at Coquitlam’s Earl Haig Retirement Residence, we like to keep those mind muscles working with our various recreation activities. CLICK HERE to read our blog, “RECREATION – RIGHT ON!” for more information on the recreation activities we have available.
In addition to the mental benefits our recreation activities provide, there’s much you can do on your own to keep your wheels well oiled:
Stimulating to the vocabulary centre of the brain, reasoning and spacial centres, these puzzles that come in abundance in the daily paper, in books, or even printable off the internet, can be done solo, or even more fun, in a group! Interactivity also keeps things healthy!
Keep your left brain sharp with linear logic!
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Your brain is part of the machine and it needs to be maintained properly. Notice how when you’re tired you feel groggy and out of it? Or when you’re dehydrated, you just don’t feel up to snuff? It’s important to take care of your living vehicle! For more information and inspiration on health and wellness, CLICK HERE to read our blog, “GET A GOOD SLEEP”.
You can create new neuropathways in the brain by changing things up! For instance, if you always put your right shoe on first, put the left one on first! If you brush your teeth from front to back, try back to front! Changing things up a bit stimulates brain activity.
Drawing, writing, singing, tinkering on an instrument. You don’t have to be even close to a professional to reap the rewards for your brain! Tune in for our next blog to explore the subject of creativity more, and how it can benefit you!
